| Philip
Greipp M.D. Professor of Medicine, Department of Hematology
& Oncology and Director of the Mayo Comprehensive Cancer
Center Hematologic Malignancies Program, Mayo Clinic College
of Medicine Rochester Minnesota accepted an invitation from
Myeloma Matters to come and give the Annual Multiple Myeloma
Lecture in August 2005. While he was in Wellington Myeloma
Matters arranged for Dr Greipp to meet the teams at the Wellington
Blood and Cancer Centre and the Malaghan Institute for Medical
Research and he was impressed by their programs and results.
Dr Greipp decided he wanted to share what he found here with
his colleagues and the idea of bringing the 4th Mayo Clinic
State of the Art Symposium on Haematologic Malignancies -
Patient Care and Discovery was born.
A unique part of this exciting educational opportunity will
be a One Day Patient Program, featuring Mayo and Guest Faculty,
this meeting will be offered to all patients, carers and interested
others living with Hematologic Malignancies, Leukaemia, Lymphoma,
Multiple Myeloma, all the Blood Cancers.
Myeloma Matters is proud to be instrumental in bringing this
meeting to Wellington and will be joined by the Leukaemia
and Blood Foundation in presenting the Mayo Clinic Symposium
for Patients. For further information on the One day Patient
Symposium to be held on Tuesday 16th January please e-mail:

In 2005, Judi McBride-Wilson invited me to come to New Zealand
to present a Myeloma Lecture to the Hematology Community in
Wellington. The seed of an idea to return with some of my
Mayo Clinic colleagues was welcomed and bloomed into a CME
meeting with approximately 25 faculty members from Mayo Clinic
supported by 6 Australian and 5 New Zealand faculty. A true
collaboration! Until now such meetings were held in the United
States and were limited in scope. The 4th Mayo Clinic State
of the Art Symposium on Hematologic Malignancies will cover
Lymphoma, Leukemia, Myeloma, Amyloidosis, Myeloproliferative
Disorders, Transplant, Supportive care, Treatment of Infections,
as well as Nursing, Palliative Care, Pharmacy/Chemotherapy
and Cancer Control in a 4-day meeting. A parallel scientific
symposium will bring together the best of Mayo, Australia
and New Zealand scientists discussing state of the art advances
in Hematologic Malignancies. The broad scope of the meeting
is exciting and it is unique among CME experiences. Such a
comprehensive approach is an International first for Mayo
and it is a first for a Hematologic Malignancies Educational
event. Tours before during and after the meeting as well as
meeting events will help make the trip memorable. We welcome
all who wish to come to this event and hope it will be a beacon
for future CME meetings in Hematologic Malignancie.
